-=-=-= PART 0. WHAT THE HECK IS T-LORD? =-=-=-
The word LORD is gleaned from (L)egend (O)f the (R)ed (D)ragon. It's a
hell of a lot easier to say. <G>
LORD has been around for 7 years now. It has been rated the #1 door
game in America countless times, received the coveted (sort of) PCboard
Add-On of the year (1995) and has been everybodys all around favorite
door for ages.
Why do people like it?
It isn't about a RPG, it is about socializing. It's about being able to
bury and marry REAL people. It is simple to learn and fun to play - people
are SUPPOSED to have personality - this game lets them do that.
There are hundreds of ways for people to interact, some obvious, some not
so obvious. The backbone behind the entire idea is a strong and workable
gaming engine. (the downfall of so many LORD clones..)
Why was it ported to WG/MBBS?
The structure of this BBS software is built around multiuser access. LORD
was created for the same purpose - but limited in many ways by
communicating by the HD - a restriction no longer imposed. This means
hundreds of people can be adventuring in the same world at the same time.
This ISN'T an exact port - there *IS* new stuff, including a fully
functional chat room with options like 'Challenge another player to a duel'
and letting the people in the chat room WATCH them fight and shout
encouragements!
You've probably had your callers say "Get LORD".
Now you can say:
"Why. I have Tournament LORD, it's twenty times better than DOS LORD."
NOTE: LORD wasn't created to keep players in it for large amounts of
time daily (like a mud) - it's here to get them to CALL BACK daily. This
is where you try to snag them with other services your system offers.
LORD's quick, easy and fun style was formulated to complement an active
system - to meet other BBS users/ect.
It features:
* Up to 400 players in one game (DOS BBS version was limited to 150)
* Hundreds of ways for players to interact
* Players can marry NPC's and other players - and have kids too!
* Interactive chat room with directional chat, whisper & generic actions
* Online fighting in the chat room, while other people watch, even
'special skills' are allowed.
* Global commands are available EVERWHERE. Just hit - to bring up the
prompt
* (G)lobal Message - sends to all players in LORD
* Custom color codes, players can use them in their names/messages
* Runs its own maintenence
* Full easy to use messaging system including quoting
* It's hot keyed!
* Auto deletes inactive players
* All Sysop options/settings are accessable from INSIDE the game
* 370+ menus/prompts can be changed and editted in level 6 cfg
* Full featured online player editor (you can edit someone while he is
playing even!)
* Tournament options - LORD will automatically declare a winner after
set # of days. You set the days and the prize
* No cheats!! (secrets yes) This is the ONLY fair game of LORD around
* Sysop definable text to strip out of all input
* Credits per minute adjustable, can also let people with a certain key
play for free
* Fully key configurable - You can lock certain keyholders out, and
'cripple' certain keyholders. (nice incentive to buy time, they will
get STOMPED if they don't!)
* Swear Patrol censoring system, you can set what parts of the game it
censors. Great for problem users. (you know every town has a few!)
(default is public messages only)
* Kid Mode - automatically changes text to be less violent/racy for
children - you set the age (default is 12 and under)
* Activation code can be entered WITHOUT shutting down the system (along
with ALL the other configuration options)
* Runs its own advertising campaign for 1st five days of the tournament
* Has been tested for over a month by over 100+ beta testors (listed at
bottom!)
* Compatible with mail/player data files from the DOS version (you could
switch back and forth if you needed to)
* God would want you to use it
-=-=-= PART 1. HOW TO INSTALL THIS =-=-=-
(Info on converting from an old DOS game is in the PART 3 section)
Run INSTALL.EXE. It will ask for your path - and begin the install or
update. (it will not reset your current game, ect.)
Now you just need to add it to your menu structure, hopefully you already
know how to do that! The module name is -= T-LORD =-
That's it. You're done.
A note: By default, LORD will AUTOMATICALLY start its advertising
campaign - it will shut itself off after the game has reached an age
of 6 days.
You can set this, but the ad is pretty large and annoying, so you wouldn't
want to leave it on more than a week most likely. (0 to disable)
-=-=-= PART 2. ACCESSING THE PLAYER EDITOR AND OPTIONS =-=-=-
Player editing and game options are all *INSIDE* of LORD - You can fully
edit players and options while MBBS/WG is up and running, even if the
player you are editing is on or playing LORD, it all works.
The (U)se Sysop options will show up if you are holding the SYSOP key by
default. It is on the first main menu in LORD. (right before you start
the game)
(you can change which key is required to use this menu once you are inside,
be careful its a valid key or you will never be able to get back in.. in
that case you would need to delete the LORDCFG.DAT file)
-=-=-= PART 3. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS =-=-=-
Note: For the VERY latest version and add on files, hit our website at
"http://www.teleport.com/~sethable".
-=IS THERE RIP SUPPORT?
No. RIP just isn't popular enough to warrant that kind of attention, RIP
LORD for DOS did ok, but most people preferred regular old ansi - it just
'feels' better.
-=IS THERE CLIENT SERVER MODE SUPPORT?! PULLEASE?!
Sorry! That would have been cool - maybe - but the popularity of LORD has
a LOT to do with its simple look and feel. If I add C/S mode later to it,
I will probably just create a way to play the ANSI version full screen. I
hate that tiny ansi emulation window Wgman comes with!!
-=IS THIS DEMO VERSION CRIPPLED? DO I NEED A 30 DAY KEY? WHAT!?
No key is needed, and the demo is NOT time based. You can run
it as long as you want, for free, on every node.
It *IS* crippled in only ONE area - players cannot pass level 6 to see
the second half of the game and 'win' it.
EVERYTHING else not related to higher levels is possible in 'demo' mode
including romantic mail, marriage, kids, chat room, Tournament mode, ect.
(keep in mind this version *IS* the full version also, after you buy the
activation code and input it)
-=CAN I RUN MORE THAN ONE GAME OF T-LORD AT THE SAME TIME?
Hit our website - the TLORD2.DLL package may be ready - this allows
you to run a completely seperate LORD game at the same time - so the
maximum will be two (maybe 3 with a third .DLL), but each can use a
different .MSG file. This extra game(s) is free of charge to
registered users.
Note: As expected, this will double the memory requirements per game.
